The Educational Value of Children designing their own games
I remember the dissatisfaction of some people, when a colleague shared the video clip that was created by her Year 5 class (9/10 years old) during my studies. ‘Is that it?’ asked one of them to my surprise. I thought maybe that because he is a secondary class teacher, he wasn’t sure what to expect from primary school children. Maybe he had higher expectations than we did. But then, what are the criteria for evaluating children’s work when they learn with technology? How advanced is the…

Self Reflection 2: Bullying Prevention for Educators
In my work with The Ophelia Project, I have heard my share of sob stories about bullying and aggression. The emails, calls, or stories shared in workshops are all unique, yet all the same. Like the stories in this unit, they all showed that aggression has an overwhelming presence and impact for nearly everyone. I have yet to come across a person who does not have first hand experience with aggression whether as a bystander, target, or aggressor.
For me, this unit raised two very…

Self Reflection 1: Bullying Prevention for Educators
WHO AM I? What are some of my most strongly held values, attitudes, and beliefs? What does being a teacher mean to me?
My name is Leigh Anne Kraemer-Naser. I live my life as often as possible by the Ghandi’s oft quoted mantra, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” In fact, I believe in it so much, I tattooed the words “Be the change” on my back. Each person has the potential to do amazing things; great things as long as they are fostered, encouraged, and…

TEACHER'S COMMITMENT MATTER
Currently I involve in writing about teacher's commitment for my final assignment in my study. It is really interesting to realize that teachers play central role in the educational processes which are intended for the student's success. Teachers as the front line of educational activities are the most crucial aspect in the success of the students. In their hands the core of educational activities that is teaching and learning in the classroom is put into action. In this point teacher's…
