This is Great!
I am A teacher trainer in a technical college in Kenya and currently pursuing PhD Degree in Sociology---The role of teachers in Peacebuilding. I concur that teachers can change the way a society handles conflict and hence prevent violence.

Hi Schery!
Thank you so much for your comment. I hope the blog conveys how impressed I was by all of you in Saltillo. It's educators like you who make me want to get up in the morning and do what I do! You give the work life, you put it into action (praxis!), and it's through you and the work that you do with your local teachers and students that true change will happen. Thank you so much for your hard work and dedication. When I think that you are a full time teacher, and then you are teaching this course in your spare time, it is truly amazing! (AND you're a mother!)

I am so pleased to hear that the course is going well and that you are finding it to be a happy and fulfilling experience. These examples are incredible - what a great homework assignment (and taking peace education "beyond classroom walls" :) The example with the law teacher is really interesting too - I think it demonstrates that there really is room - and need - for peace education everywhere, in our classrooms, homes, hearts, and even law offices, and beyond.

Thanks for sharing these experiences and please let me know anytime that I can be of support!
Warm wishes,
Stephanie

Wow, Loved this post, I wasn´t aware of the things you though about the results from the program in Saltillo, the only thing I can say is that I just finished with one of the online sessions and every time I finish one I feel so reassured, happy, fullfilled and excited about the things that are starting to happen when I listen to these teachers share the experiences they have practiced. Specially two of them, one is a law teacher and she teached her ss to follow up the rules we placed at the workshops for a good comunication in their advocacy work and the work done before a trial and that seemed to me very interesting specially because her ss told her that it was great to have a way of starting things with clients because they prefered to avoid trial and this could help them solve the conflict before it became legal.
The second experience was a High school teacher that told his ss as a hw to go to their parents and hug them and tell them how much they loved them and see what happened, and the result was that at first parents where surprised and asked their children what they wanted! but after that, they would go with them and hug them back and told asked them how they felt.
And well as this experiences, I´ve heard lots more very interesting and easy to apply in class.
Personally, I feel like I´m in a personal process to becoming a more peaceful person at home and school, but very hopeful about being in the right path. Thanks Stephanie for giving the first step and letting us start this project with you!!
Best Wishes

Hi Jenny,
Thank you for your kind words, and thank you for reading my blog posts! What is happening in Saltillo is really exciting, and I'm happy to hear that you share my excitement. The teachers are so dedicated, and I really believe it is the start of something great. What are you teaching in Monterrey? If we have another event in Saltillo you should try to come down. We may have another event later this year. Please stay tuned at the TWB web site or email me at stephanie@twb.org.
Warm wishes,
Stephanie

Hi Stephanie, I have been following your blog posts for awhile now as peace education workshops launch in Mexico. As a Canadian teaching in Monterrey (near Saltillo!), it is really exciting to see the interest and the determination of educators and facilitators to implement this into their classrooms. Keep it up! :)

Schery,
Congrats to YOU! You and your family (Verlangas + "Uncle Can" :) impressed me beyond words. You put so much work into making the conference a success - I was honored to be a part of it! I am just amazed at your dedication, commitment, and hard work to make this launch happen, and to share with other teachers what you have learned in your peace education studies. I know this is just the beginning, and I'm so excited to be working together on this. I honestly can't thank you enough. You inspire me!
With deep gratitude,
Stephanie
